Tiernan has been seen by a vet and will make a full recovery.

Tiernan on road to recovery

One gorgeous foal was rescued this week after being hit by a car in Cork.

My Lovely Horse Rescue Cork was called by An Garda Síochána late on Tuesday evening to help with an animal which had collided with a car, but had managed to find his way into a garden near Mitchelstown.

A My Lovely Horse Rescue Cork volunteer went to assist gardaí to get the very frightened foal to safety.

The equine charity has named him Tiernan and said that he’s “sore, very nervous and is so sad” and that it’s “obvious he doesn’t know kindness or love or a gentle hand. But he will come to know them now.”

A spokesperson said that a vet has seen him and outlined a treatment plan and that the charity is optimistic that he will make a full recovery. The charity said the young horse was hit on his left side by a car but was also underweight. It’s likely he wasn’t secured properly or may have been dumped.

My Lovely Horse Rescue Cork rescue, retrain and rehome unwanted, abandoned or surrendered equines. It currently has around 250 animals looking for a home. It is not-for-profit and run mainly by volunteers. To donate, see donate.mylovelyhorserescue.com.
