Couple finds slimming formula
A couple, who are both essential workers, have kick-started a weight loss regime after both finding themselves gaining weight in 2020. Amy Lucid is a clerical officer with the Department of Education while David Lucid is a carer and chef instructor in a residential setting for vulnerable adults.
Deciding they needed a change, the Lucids gave Slimming World a go. Speaking about their journey so far, Amy says: “The pandemic started and we felt ourselves snacking more and exercising less and we quickly realised it needed to change not just for our physical health but also for our mental health. David suffers with high blood pressure and I have wanted to get back to my pre-baby weight for years but never quite managed it.
“How we did it was relatively simple; we followed the Slimming World way of life. Many people think this a diet, but it is far from it; it is a way to live your life eating tasty foods and snacks while losing weight and feeling great about yourself.
“There are so many free filling foods such as eggs, pasta, fruit, and tonnes of delicious recipes to choose from. If you do want to reach for that treat some evening you can, you just use your syns or maybe look for something that uses your healthy extras.”
With two young children, the thoughts of both Amy and David being able to attend a meeting together seemed impossible. However, virtual meetings was the perfect solution for the couple and Amy says the support from the virtual group is amazing.
“David was under the disillusion that Slimming World was just for women and has said he would have struggled to walk in the doors of a meeting in person, so the virtual element eliminated that excuse.
“Planning ahead is key as we both continue to work right through this pandemic providing essential services, from planning meals for the week before the big shop to batch making soup or prepping vegetables on a Sunday.
“The Mayfield members Slimming World Facebook page also constantly provides us with inspiration for recipes or tweaks for dishes to adapt them for Slimming World.
“We were surprised how much motivation Slimming World provides, how easy it was to incorporate into our lives as a family and wish we had done it years ago! The children enjoy helping with the prep and there is no doubt that our family as a whole have benefited from a healthier stocked fridge in the house,” concludes Sarah.
The Mayfield Slimming World group, led by Sarah O’Herlihy meets every Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
