I’ve shed my winter coat
My wardrobe and I entered into the first phase of spring mode this week and let me tell you, it is simply glorious.
I have officially shed my winter coat and have started getting super smart with my layering.
There are some outfits I adore wearing this time of year and while it still isn’t amazing weather-wise, there is definitely a slight rise in temperature meaning that I have been throwing blazers over every outfit.
I kind of took a turn against the blazer a few years ago possibly because I wore one nearly every day for most of my young adult life, so it was only natural that we took a break from one another but thankfully I have been getting reacquainted with this sartorial buddy recently.
I purchased a grey ponte fabric relaxed fit blazer from M&S a few weeks ago and I have been wearing it over everything. The slightly casual feel to the fabric and the neutral light grey means that it can make a dress that bit more casual but also gives a more put together feel when I throw it over my loungewear and trainers.
It also came in a black version which I feel would be another good investment because the shape really is perfect for day-to-day smart casual wear.
I have also been getting great wear out of my leather jacket but in particular my more oversized one as the roomy fit and longline look means I can wear thicker layers underneath. I have been wearing it with chunky knitwear layered over my lighter dresses and some ankle boots just to get back into the vibe of dressing up a little bit.
I’ve also made the brave move this week of venturing back into my jeans again as this section of my wardrobe had been seriously neglected for the past year.
I took all my jeans out and tried them on and just got rid of any pairs that I was holding onto but were past their best or that I just knew I would never wear again. I was surprised to find that I in fact seem to buy a lot of wide leg jeans but never really wear them so that was an eye opener and handy as wide leg jeans are very much in this season and I don’t have to buy any now.
I would recommend going through your wardrobe before making any new season purchases for this very reason. I also seem to have developed a shirt obsession which I’ve never had before, and I reason that this is a backlash to my current wardrobe of loungewear. I must be longing for some structured pieces in my wardrobe. This of course works well with jeans and while I’ve been layering my shirts under sweatshirts, I look forward to the day when I get to wear some straight leg jeans, a striped oversize shirt and some colourful mules.
I feel like this will be my spring uniform and I will just throw on some chunky oversized vintage jewellery to complete my look and pretend that I’m somewhere on the continent.
If you’re after an oversized shirt to add to your wardrobe, I have spotted some gorgeous ones from Zara including a light blue one with a light pink stripe that has a cool oversized cropped sleeve. It makes a change from the classic white and looks fresh and effortless. Perfect spring fashion vibes!
