Ferry good boy

Detector dog Marley was definitely a good boy this week.

He was part of the team that found 90kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €1.8 million at the Ringaskiddy Ferry Terminal on Tuesday.

The illegal drugs were discovered as a result of routine profiling.

Revenue officers stopped and searched a Polish registered van which had arrived from Roscoff in France.

A total of 37 separate packages of herbal cannabis were subsequently found deeply concealed within panels of the van.

A spokesperson for Revenue said: “The driver of the van, a male Polish national in his twenties, was detained and subsequently arrested by An Garda Síochána.

“These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.”

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said the man who was arrested was in his 20s and was still being detained at Togher Garda Station as of the time of going to print.

The man can be held for up to seven days from the time of his arrest.

Both Revenue and An Garda Síochána said that investigations are ongoing.
