Plan the perfect tablescape
By Maria Reidy
I always approach dressing a table in layers, so start with the table and either keep it bare and use a placemat or start with a linen cloth.
As it is nearing summer time, I like to start with a rattan style placemat from our Poppy range then layer with the green dinner plate on top with the green dessert plate to finish.
There are many napkin folds but one I like is to tie the napkin from the middle point with a piece of ribbon. It makes it more interesting and is a great way to tie in another colour to the tablescape.
Our cutlery is very special and is made in France by a family company – they have been making cutlery since 1963 and it is so lovely to deal with them. The ivory handles are very classic but lovely to hold.
I like to use vases in sets of three or five. I like to place these at three different intervals along the table. I often pick out any flecks of colour in the vases with our tapered Danish candles and use them to weave a pop of colour down the table.
I use little salt bowls for either dips or salt and pepper. The mini dishes with the ladybirds are also ideal for dips or side plates. And they also make a cute holder for a place card.
More than anything, it is important that your guests are comfortable so chairs with cushions are important. Lots of candlelight at high and low points can create a very intimate table setting.
