Hear the Winds of Change at the School of Music
A sense of imminent change is in the air this month as the Cork Orchestral Society passes the half way point of its 2021 online concert series.
For the series’ next instalment, the society welcomes a performance from wind quintet Winds of Change streamed live from the Curtis Auditorium at MTU School of Music on Union’s Quay.
Winds of Change will be joined by acclaimed pianist Ellen Jansson for what will be the fourth live performance in the popular series, following concerts from 13 Strings, Brendan Garde and Finghin Collins.
A Cork-based ensemble, Winds of Change was formed in 2018 and had its inaugural concert in the MTU Cork School of Music as part of that year’s Cork Orchestral Society concert series.
The members of the quintet have played together in several orchestras and ensembles over the years, and developed the quintet following performances together as part of the Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra.
“I'm very excited about this next concert,” says Cork Orchestral Society Chairman, Tom Crowley.
“The sound of the wind quintet in combination with piano can at times sound symphonic, while at the same time there is a level of intimate chamber music. The contrast is very satisfying - a feeling that is underpinned by the playing of these six amazing musicians, who are without doubt the cream of what our nation has to offer.”
Winds of Change are: Kieran Moynihan, flute; Ciara Glasheen-Artem, oboe; Conor Sheil, clarinet; Sinéad Frost, bassoon; Hannah Miller, horn; and Ellen Jansson, piano.
The Winds of Change concert is free to view and will be live-streamed from 6.30pm on 15 May on corkorchestralsociety.ie. The performance will then remain online for future viewing.
