30 free events for children and teens

The largest Cruinniú na Óg ever organised on Leeisde is taking shape.

Cork City Council in conjunction with Creative Ireland has announced their Cruinniú na Óg Programme with over 30 free interactive and imaginative events for young people being hosted by 26 cultural partners in Cork on Saturday 12 June.

Cruinniú na nÓg is a national day of creativity and young people in Cork will be able to experience street-based activities, venue based in person experiences, live workshops, online events and book launches.

Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Joe Kavanagh said: “Young people have led by example through this challenging time of Covid-19 supported by our local cultural organisations and practitioners. Cruinniú na nÓg in Cork city will showcase artistic excellence and a touching humanity.”

He continued: “Our 2021 programme is a testament to the resilient spirits that have shone a bright light at our darkest times in this collective experience.

“With Creative Ireland, we look forward to celebrating together on 12 June through a range of fun and creative activities at home, in our local parks and on our city streets,” he concluded.

As part of Cruinniú na nÓg Cork City, a wide range of outdoor activities will take place. These include 18th century dance lessons in the gardens of Nano Nagle Place, poetry readings by young poets in Fitzgerald Park, Ballincollig Regional Park and Tramore Valley Park and imaginative billboards created by Activate Youth Theatre at Graffiti in collaboration with Notes to Cork where you can strike a pose, dance and become part of the story.

Venues are opening their doors to the public and St Peter’s Cork will host a day of art and fun for young children where they can participate in workshops on the skill of cartooning and colour mixing.

Cork Community Artlink and the Traveller Visibility Group (TVG) are creating a street artwork on the walls of the TVG Building on John’s Street celebrating young travellers’ perspectives on life in the travelling community through symbols, words, and imagery.
