Two big names join West Cork film fest
West Cork’s Fastnet Film Festival just got even more exciting with the addition of Oscar nominated actor Ciarán Hinds and Oscar winning score composer Stephen Warbeck to its line-up.
The two worked together on Warbeck’s directorial debut ‘The Man in the Hat’, which stars Hinds in the lead role.
Set in the picturesque landscapes of France, the near-silent movie experience follows the journey of ‘The Man in the Hat’ as he meets various mysterious strangers in a series of eccentric encounters.
Ciarán Hinds is a Belfast-born, award-winning actor who honed his craft in theatres around the north of Ireland before making his film debut in John Boorman’s 1981 ‘Excalibur’ where he acted alongside Irish screen legends Liam Neeson and Gabriel Byrne.
Hinds continued with a string of stage and film roles in features such as ‘Road to Perdition’, ‘There will be Blood’, ‘In Bruges’, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’, and ‘Belfast’, for which he was nominated for an Oscar. He is also known for his voice roles in animated films like ‘Frozen’ and ‘Justice League’. Ciarán’s television roles include ‘Rome’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘The Dry’.
Composer Stephen Warbeck is best known for his work on television and film. He has composed the music for ‘Prime Suspect’, 'Mrs Brown’, ‘Mystery Men’, ‘Billy Elliot’, ‘Quills’, ‘Captain Corelli's Mandolin’, ‘Charlotte Gray’ and ‘Shakespeare in Love’, for which he won his Academy Award.
As part of Fastnet Film Festival’s focus on music in film, Stephen will be running a composition masterclass, moderated by Maurice Seezer.
The Fastnet Film Festival takes place from the 25-29 May in Schull in West Cork. For more information and bookings, visit fastnetfilmfestival.com.
