This will be tee-rrific
The annual Cork Simon Golf Classic charity event will return to Monkstown Golf Course next week.
This year the voluntary organising committee, chaired by Finbarr Gannon, hopes to exceed the €20,000 raised at last year’s event in support of men and women experiencing homelessness in Cork.
This will be the second year in a row that consultation service Vision Contracting will be the main sponsor of the Cork Simon Golf Classic.
Speaking in the build-up to next Thursday’s event, CEO of Vision Contracting, Mike Allen described it as an event that “will help greatly in supporting those less fortunate”.
Mr Allen said: “It’s a sad reflection of our society that Cork Simon is becoming more and more relevant with each passing year since its founding over 50 years ago.”
Cork Simon Community supported over 1,000 men and women last year at its housing, emergency and personal development services, none of which are fully funded. The community’s essential services all remained open throughout the pandemic, thanks in part to the generous support of the business community in Cork and beyond.
As the organising committee finalised details of this year’s Cork Simon Annual Golf Classic, committee member Denis Crowley of consultancy firm Arup, thanked the individuals and businesses around Cork for their continuing support.
“They’re providing vital funds to enable Cork Simon to continue to strive to end homelessness,” said Mr Crowley.
Volunteering alongside Finbarr Gannon, Chair of this year’s Annual Cork Simon Golf Classic are Mick Allen, Robert Andrews, Denis Crowley, Jenny Igoe, Helena Jackson, Fiona McKiernan, Clare O’Loughlin and Gerry Wycherley.
The 2022 Annual Cork Simon Golf Classic will take place at Monkstown Golf Club next Thursday, 26 May. To enter a team, sponsor a tee box, or make a donation, contact Tom Hennessy at 021-2455241.
