NTA extends public consultation
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has announced an extension to its period of public consultation for proposals to deliver 12 new sustainable transport corridors in Cork.
The public consultation period, which is already underway, will now remain open until 3 October.
The proposals are part of the BusConnects Cork programme and include approximately 93km of bus lane/bus priority and 112km of cycle facilities across the city.
The NTA has stated that it is committed to working with all interested parties in the development of these proposed sustainable transport corridors. The NTA has also highlighted the importance of public feedback and insight as the proposals develop.
CEO of the NTA, Anne Graham strongly urged the public to participate: “Your say is really important to us to facilitate an open and meaningful discussion that meets the needs of the local community.
“The NTA has developed initial proposals but local knowledge and community feedback is hugely important to help shape the future designs and to progress the proposals.”
Ms Graham added that the proposed sustainable transport corridors are fundamental to realising the ambition of the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (CMATS), developed in connection with Cork City Council to increase the number of people using public transport in Cork fourfold by 2040.
She said: “It also aims to expand the numbers cycling and walking by 33%. These corridors will seek to transform the public transport network into a more efficient, sustainable model to meet anticipated and future growth in the region.”
The NTA will be holding a series of community forums beginning on 12 September. Further information will be posted on the Bus Connect website in the coming weeks.
To register interest for the community forums, members of the public can email corkstc@busconnects.ie with their name, community, residents or special interest group and the STC of interest.
