Cork Counselling Services to celebrate 40 years with event

Cork Counselling Services is to mark its 40th anniversary in the city with a celebration event on the 26 August in the Kingsley Hotel at 5.30pm.

The event called Creative Beings will feature stellar guest speakers like Louise O’ Neill, Shane Casey (AKA Billy Murphy), Honor Carrol, Biddy McDonagh, Michael Moynihan and Julie Goo. Music will be provided by Eoin O’Riabhaigh, Aidan Coffey and Ronan O’Driscoll.

There is no charge for the invitation-only event and refreshments will be provided. Local politicians (from all parties), and representatives from some of Cork’s best community organisations (Penny Dinners, Good Day Cork, Youth Reach, The Cork Life Centre, Sexual Violence Centre) will also be in attendance.

Should any past or present client, student, staff member of our service, or any member of the public or organisation associated with Cork Counselling Services wish to attend, they can register their interest in being invited by visiting www.corkcounsellingservices.ie.

“When Cork Counselling Services (CCS) was founded in 1982, the south of Ireland had no culture of professional counselling,” explained Hugh Morley, Head of Business.

“Awareness around mental health and its treatment was limited. We have come a long way since then. Our city is more open and educated about these topics than anyone could have imagined in the early days of CCS.

“This seismic shift in our communities is a good thing but of course it has also driven up demand. We are proud of our work in Cork and the progress of our clients and students over the past forty years, and we want to make this anniversary a special one.”
