TikTokers rate Cork restaurant among top ten
A Cork restaurant has proven to be particularly appealing to Gen Zers, with Okuara in Douglas named among the top 10 ranked eateries in Ireland according to TikTok.
Influencer marketing agency Ubiquitous has revealed the top bars and restaurants around the globe according to TikTok users, an increasingly important cohort.
The research found that the most commonly TikTok-ed restaurant in Ireland was Amy Austin, also ranking in the top 25 globally. Japanese restaurant Okuara was in 7th spot in Ireland, the only Leeside place in the top 25.
Topping the global list was Nusr-Et in London famous for its incredible dishes at a whopping 21.6 billion views on the app, followed by Chula in Sydney and another London destination in Luca, famous for its ‘romantic vibe’ which closed out the top three at 11.5 billion views.
The research also revealed that the favourite type of restaurant was fine dining with 22% of videos falling under this category, followed by Italian at 14%. Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a foodie-based trip, then you may want to consider hitting up London as over 15% of the most popular food videos were recorded in this location.
To gather the data, Ubiquitous analysed hundreds of the most popular videos on the app under restaurant-specific hashtags to compile a list of commonly suggested locations at the top of the application’s algorithm, then cross-referenced the list by searching the locations on TikTok to calculate their virality level on the platform. Ubiquitous also took into account the opinion of its team of social media experts to help calculate the ‘virality factor’ of these hot spots.
Jeremy Boudinet, Sr Director of Growth from Ubiquitous said: “The increase in Gen Z searching for items and places on TikTok before making a purchase makes perfect sense, as these younger consumers have been trained in a visual-first mode of engaging with consumption. They want to be able to visualize what they’re getting in a realistic way—and that means seeing it from people like themselves.
“This trend also means that it has become more important than ever for hotspots and brands to build their own social media presence as this can lead to massive increases in customers and foot traffic.”
Boudinet added: “Food is one of the highest searched for items on TikTok with over 422.2 million hashtags, meaning it’s no surprise that restaurants and bars are starting to design their venues with ‘TikTok-ability’ and ‘trend factor’ in mind.”
