A night for all

There’s just over 2 weeks before the culture vultures emerge on Leeside.

Rolling into town on 23 September, Cork Culture Night 2022 truly will be a ‘night for all’ with an amazing line-up of events that are sure to carry on into the early hours.

One highlight will be the launch of a new poetry collection by Cork-based poet Anton Floyd.

The collection, ‘Depositions’ deals exclusively with the worldwide refugee crisis and population displacement.

Floyd was born in Cairo, Egypt, a Levantine mix of Irish, Maltese, English and French Lebanese. Raised in Cyprus, he lived through the struggle for independence and the island remains close to his heart. Educated in Ireland, he studied English at Trinity College and continued his postgraduate studies at UCC. He now lives in West Cork.

The book launch will take place from 7-9pm at Nano Nagle Place.

Another great event on the night will be the premiere of artist Marie Brett’s new filmic work ‘Dragon’s Tail’ at Cork Printmakers courtyard on Wandesford Quay.

The film will be presented as a special once-off installation with live music from musicians in straw girl costumes created especially for the premiere.

Described as an epic folk myth, ‘Dragon’s Tail’ explores how electromagnetic energy and cultural lore relate to human health and alien other-worlds. Filmed on a peninsula in Ireland’s west coast, the piece combines folk custom spectacle and magical landscape with dazzling effigies, fire drawing and ethereal sound.

The piece is 10 minutes in duration and will run continuously 8-9.30pm.
