Pana-normal activity
You can add paranormal activity to the ever-growing list of things Cork does better than anyone else in Ireland.
From a leprechaun’s shoe found in a field, to a poltergeist spotted in Cobh Heritage Centre, Cork is head-less and shoulders above the competition when it comes to paranormal activity in this country.
That's according to a frightening new study revealing where in the country you are statistically most likely to witness something on the supernatural ‘scythe’ of things.
Analysing the Paranormal Database, which documents paranormal reports in the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands, data experts from Irish online casino Slotbox.com were able to uncover the areas with the highest number of paranormal sightings. These include everything from poltergeists to UFOs to magical beings, as well as what are known as “unexplainable occurrences”.
The online gaming experts then calculated the chances of seeing this kind of activity in each location using population data and other witchcraft.
In the report, Cork county and city registered a monstrous 132 reported paranormal occurrences, while second placed Dublin only managed 83.
For those eager to avoid the paranormal, a move to Sligo might be on the cards with only 5 sightings recorded in the Yeats County. Counties Roscommon and Offaly are also almost free from the supernatural, with less than 10 reports overall.
Commenting on the findings, a spooks-person from Slotbox.com said: “Ireland has a lot of spooky history and with Halloween on the way, it’s incredible to see how many paranormal sightings have been reported.
“As county Cork takes the top spot for the location with the most sightings, it’s fascinating to uncover the historical stories connected to this location. From the legend of ‘The Faceless Lady’ at Belvelly Castle to the numerous tales derived from Cork District Asylum, it’s no surprise to see it in first place.”
