Avenue heard the news?
Cyprus Avenue has invited some of Cork's finest up and coming talents in the local music scene to perform across a 2 day event this month.
The Cork Rising 2023 Showcase runs across 20 and 21 January at Cyprus Avenue on Caroline Street in the city centre and features 4 incredible acts each night.
Friday 20 January
Arthur Valentine
Arthur revels in blending his traditional acoustic pop song writing with innovative unique production, drawing from no end of unusual sources of samples and inspirations, with warm, prismatic, harmonised vocals, wrapped in sunlight.
Arthur Valentine has the same pop sensibilities as much of the softer side of American hip-hop collective Brockhampton’s catalogue, with roots firmly in bedroom pop, but with an additional level of sheen that doesn’t disrupt its intimate qualities. One for fans of Clairo, Ryan Beatty and Christian Alexander according to District Magazine.
The Neon Cars
The Neon Cars are a 4 piece indie rock band from Cork. To date, the group have performed across Ireland and the UK, enjoying a number of headline shows and festival appearances. Since the release of their debut single, ‘When I Met You In The Summer’, back in 2020, the band has released a number of energetic singles across 2022.
In 2023, they are set to release their biggest single to date, produced by Aidan Cunningham (The Blizzards, The Scratch and many more). With plans for some big new shows across the country, 2023 may also see a brand new EP from the group.
Letterbox Kid
Letterbox Kid is the artistic project of 22 year old Irish singer-songwriter, producer, and rapper, Isaac O’Sullivan. The Letterbox Kid manages to blend a wide array of genres such as progressive hip-hop, soul and avant garde beats to create an astoundingly unique sound.
Drawing influences from the likes of King Krule, Jeff Buckley and JPEG Mafia, Isaac has learned to hone his craft under renowned musical minds such as former Van Morrison guitarist Johnny Scott, and illustrious Irish music producer 1000 Beasts. Leaning on his dominant and intense live performances, as well as a plethora of releases, the Letterbox Kid is set to have a hell of a year in 2023.
Syano & Rex Arcum
Cork-based genre-defying duo Syano & Rex Arcum are joining forces to bring new life into the alternative hip-hop scene in Ireland, delivering an exciting and eclectic new sound that is sure to shake up the Emerald Isle.
Syano is a hip-hop artist/beatmaker from Kerry. First releasing music in 2019, Syano has since shown his evolution as an artist and is continuing his growth by taking his music to a live stage.
Cork’s Rex Arcum thrives on creating genre defiant rap-rock music with the sole purpose of changing negativity and mental struggles into something powerful and positive for both himself and his listeners.
Saturday 21 January
Sam Healy
Sam Healy is a producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from Cork city, who is primarily influenced by hip-hop, jazz and house music. He grew up around music and started playing guitar at a young age. He is inspired by the music of J.dilla, Alfa mist and D’Angelo.
STRAIF
STRAIF are a new alternative rock band from Cork. They just released their debut single ‘Glance’ in December and will be releasing their anticipated debut album in early February 2023.
This exciting new 5 piece band has former members of Cyclefly, That Falling Feeling and The Sons of Steve McQueen in its line-up.
STRAIF started in December 2019 and have been dedicated to writing and recording beautiful and powerful original songs.
Ebben Phlö
Ebben Phlö are Cork-based psyche pop/rock duo Kevin Ring and James Moone.
The pair started playing together when they both lost their job delivering free cider. They began busking on the street, playing bass and drums to make rent. After getting great receptions, they took these jams to the studio and fleshed them out with bittersweet vocals, slamming drums, climbing pads, catchy guitar melodies, and fuzzy bass lines.
Hánt
Hánt is the liminal new project of Dylan Howe, who paints his songs with a wide palette of textures, expressed through his voice, guitar and piano. In his journey in exploring many different types of music, Howe is bringing his song writing back to its simplest form, expressing the feeling in these songs through emotional intuition and honesty.
