Let those creative juices flow

Those involved in the arts are being encouraged to participate in Ireland’s national day of free creative activity for children and young people.

Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service is inviting arts facilitators, arts organisations and community groups to submit an application to participate in this year’s Cruinniú na nÓg.

Launched in 2018, Cruinniú na nÓg has become a key date in Ireland’s cultural calendar, providing opportunities for Ireland’s 1.2 million children and young people to explore new ventures.

In previous years, the programme has included circus skills, animation, live music gigs, contemporary dance, youth theatre and so much more. All events are free to attend.

Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr Danny Collins is encouraging those involved in the arts to apply: “For many young people their first creative experiences can develop into a lifelong hobby, passion, or career. Cruinniú na nÓg can play a big part in that first step towards nurturing the creative talents of our young people.

“We welcome innovative and exciting proposals for activities to include in this year’s celebration of young people’s creativity in Cork county.”

Cruinniú na nÓg addresses a wide range of themes including all art forms, heritage, craft, coding, climate change, and design. While there must be a key event that will take place on Saturday 10 June, applicants are encouraged to make proposals that will offer a longer period of engagement beyond that one day.

Projects may begin in advance of 10 June and culminate in an event on that day or begin with an introductory event and continue for an extended period thereafter.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Sunday 26 February.
