11 year old Macroom story writer impresses judges

An 11 year old budding author from Macroom can now add a hamper full of books to her at home library.

Georgia Froggatt was the runner up of the national Specsavers Irish Book Awards short story competition. The Cork native entered the competition and was awarded a runner up prize, which included a hamper of the shortlisted books featured in the recent Irish Books Awards children’s category.

The short story competition celebrates Specsavers’ sponsorship of the Junior and Senior Irish Children's Book of the Year categories at this year’s An Post Irish Book Awards 2022.

This year’s short story theme was ‘Looking into the crystal ball, the fortune teller was excited about the future…’ and Georgina’s creative story, titled ‘Madam Mayhem’, impressed the judges, who felt she had a bright future as a budding author.

Georgia’s prize included a copy of each of the shortlisted books from the Irish Books Awards children’s category. The hamper featured some of Ireland’s bestselling titles including ‘Girls Who Slay Monsters’, ‘Truth About Riley’, ‘Lost Girl King’ and ‘Great Irish History Book’.
