Paraguayan UCC student Diana Vicezar’s new podcast explores the experiences of Hispanic and Latino students in Ireland

Podcast sheds light on Hispanic and Latino students in Ireland

A new Cork-based podcast exploring the experiences of Hispanic and Latino students in Ireland has earned a lot of praise since launching last month.

The first of its kind in Ireland, 'La Sociedad' (The Society) is the brainchild of UCC student Diana Vicezar. The podcast features students from Peru, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia, and aims to provide a space in which they can share their stories and increase the positive representation of their communities.

Through a series of 10 video podcast episodes, 'La Sociedad' delves into important topics such as migration, identity, and community building, giving listeners a deeper understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by the Hispanic and Latino communities here in Ireland.

Diana, who is from Paraguay, created the podcast in response to her own experiences, rooted in a feeling that her community was not being properly represented in Ireland and that their stories were not being heard.

“The podcast was born out of my personal experience studying abroad in Ireland, where I noticed a lack of representation of Hispanic and Latinos in the mainstream media,” explains Diana.

Diana believes that sharing these stories can help to increase awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by her and her fellow students, and ultimately promote greater inclusivity and cultural diversity.

Launched on 1 March, the podcast has already gained a following, with listeners praising the thoughtful and inspiring conversations featured in each episode.

'La Sociedad' is the first podcast focused on Latino and Hispanic students in Ireland and is providing a valuable perspective on the challenges faced by these communities and the importance of representation and community building.

Diana says she hopes that her work on 'La Sociedad' will inspire other students to create their own platforms and use their voices to make a positive impact. She believes that the power of personal storytelling can help to break down cultural barriers and create a more inclusive society for all.

‘La Sociedad’ is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and YouTube. For more information on 'La Sociedad', visit lasociedadpodcast.com.
