Jinx Lennon will play Fred Zeppelins on 5 May.

Fredz have gone and Jinxed it

It’s difficult to describe what Irish punk poet songwriter Jinx Lennon does exactly. What we can tell you is that he’s one of the nation’s most unique and unforgettable artists, and he’s headed to Leeside next month.

On 5 May, Cork audiences will have a chance to experience it all for themselves when the Dundalk native plays iconic city centre venue Fred Zeppelins. Also on the bill is Cork-based punk poet Wasps vs Humans, who will releasing his EP 'Hit’ at the end of May.

Jinx Lennon sings songs about the times we live in here in Ireland, social issues and the struggle to retain sanity and integrity in the 21st century. The show aims to be an uplifting experience for the audience because it's honest, sometimes scary, funny, and personal. Jinx switches from sample beats to acoustic guitar, bass, and bass drum during the set and has a tape machine dialogue going on between songs.

His new album, ‘Walk Lightly When the Jug is Full’, is a full on assault course through the world of open-tuned guitar with a punk folk attitude, especially when it comes to his lyrics which deal with teenage pregnancies, the incel community, police brutality, and noisy terraced house living.

Described by comedian Tommy Tiernan as one of the most iconic underground musicians in Ireland, Jinx has been writing and recording music since 1980, playing in bands including Novena Babes, Silver Seeds, Zen Emeralds, Sneaky Pete, and The Ostrich.

Support act Wasps vs Humans has shared the stage with John Cooper Clarke, Christy Moore, Scroobius Pip, Whipping Boy, and The Fall. His set includes drums, spoken word and beats as he rants about celebrity culture, cheap meat, and inner-city violence. He has also had 2 novels and 1 poetry collection published. He is also half of duo The Princess and the Punk.

Doors open at 9pm on 5 May. Tickets are €15 and are available through Eventbrite.
