Swing into action fore a great cause
It’s time to tee off for one of Cope Foundation's biggest fundraising initiatives.
People supported by Cope Foundation will be joining teams of golfers and taking to the course this summer to raise funds to empower people with an intellectual disability and/or autism.
Cope Foundation’s Golf Classic takes place at Monkstown Golf Club on 8 and 9 June. It’s the 27th year of the event, which is supported by O’Flynn Exhams LLP Solicitors.
The event generates funds for the Cork-based charity. Last year’s Golf Classic raised €52,000. The organisation supports 2,800 people with an intellectual disability and/or autism to live ‘Your Life, Your Way’.
Cope Foundation’s Communications and Fundraising Manager, Elaine Murphy said: “Our aim at Cope Foundation is to work with the people we support, empowering them to live the lives of their choosing whether that’s playing sport, living independently or reaching personal goals. Not only is our annual Golf Classic our biggest fundraiser, it is also a great way to shine a light on inclusion in golf and sport.”
Joe Hosford, who is supported by Cope Foundation, said: “I love being out in the fresh air, I have a really good swing. I am playing golf for about fifteen years. I try to play once a week. I have played in lots of golf courses. I also play in Cobh and Muskerry Golf Clubs as part of an inclusive golf initiative. I have played in Cope Foundation’s Golf Classic lots of times; I always really enjoy it.”
Ailbhe Barrett, who is also supported by Cope Foundation, said: “I just love playing golf, I really enjoy spending time with Mary who works in the Physical Activity and Sports Department in Cope Foundation. I play in Muskerry Golf Club every Tuesday; I look forward to it every week.”
There will be Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive competitions.
