‘Tireless’ festival director honoured
The director of a Cork film festival has been honoured with a prestigious award in recognition of his support of independent filmmaking.
Mick Hannigan, Director of the Indie Cork Festival, was chosen for the John Boorman Special Achievement Award by Dublin organisation Underground Cinema.
Underground Cinema supports and promotes independent filmmakers in Ireland and abroad with a focus on showcasing exceptional talent and fostering a thriving film community.
The accolade recognises Mr Hannigan’s outstanding support of independent filmmaking in Ireland. The award will be presented at the 14th Underground Cinema Film Awards, held at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire on 11 November.
The John Boorman Special Achievement Award, established by Underground Cinema, celebrates individuals within the industry who have made significant and remarkable contributions to Irish film against all odds.
Mick Hannigan's dedication to independent filmmaking, as exemplified by his influential role as festival director of Indie Cork, has garnered widespread acclaim and support from filmmakers across the country.
The Underground Cinema Film Awards, now in its 14th year, is a highlight of the independent film community in Ireland. The event brings together talented filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts to celebrate the diverse and innovative works created in the independent film sector.

Previous recipients of the award include film director Paddy Slattery, accomplished film producer Cormac Fox of Vico Films, renowned actor Patrick Bergin, and distinguished cinematographer Seamus Deasy.
