Swim with Gaza this weekend
People from all corners of Cork are invited to take part in a swimming event in solidarity with the people of Gaza this weekend.
This Saturday, in conjunction with the Gaza Swimming Carnival which takes place in Gaza every year, Cork swimmers will take to Fountainstown Beach to show their support for Palestinians imprisoned in the Gaza Strip. One of the event’s organisers, Nedaa Yousef, said: “Since 2007 the people of Gaza have been imprisoned by the security fence and border restrictions which make it almost impossible to enter or leave their narrow strip of land, one of the most densely populated regions in the world. The children of Gaza do have the sea on their doorstep, and with the help of a team of local volunteers, many young people in Gaza are accomplished swimmers.”
It has become customary for people around the world to join Gaza's swimmers for a solidarity swim on 26 August. All are welcome and can book free use of a mobile sauna. For more, email palestinecork@gmail.com.
Sauna tickets are available on Eventbrite.ie.
