Marymount conference on palliative care

Marymount University Hospital and Hospice is holding a two-day international conference on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 October.
Entitled Reflections & Projections on Palliative Care and Care of the Older Persons, the conference will take place in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
The conference will promote high quality palliative care by examining historical and current palliative care data, policy, and development both locally and globally.
Marymount invites members of the multidisciplinary team, involved in the care of people living with progressive life limiting illnesses, those working in the areas of specialist palliative care, care of the older person, or those with a keen interested in palliative care to attend.
Delegates can attend one of the informative parallel sessions, facilitated by a multitude of disciplines, including palliative medicine, gerontology, HIQA, occupational therapy, and IT.
The conference will hear from national and international experts including Marymount CEO, Dr Sarah McCloskey, and current Chief Executive Officer of the HSE, Bernard Gloster.
Global palliative medicine experts, Professors Eduardo Bruera (Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, USA), Jennifer Temel (Massachusetts General Hospital, USA), and Breffni Hannon (Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Canada), will deliver plenaries on the future of palliative care, the use of technology-based interventions, and the importance of supporting caregivers.
Other speakers include Professor Karen Ryan (St Francis Hospice & Mater University Hospital, Dublin), Dr Joanne Droney (Royal Marsden Hospital, London), and Dr Julie Ling (CEO of the European Association for Palliative Care) who will connect historical and contemporary knowledge with innovate thinking for the future and consider what lies ahead as the need for palliative care increases.
Dr Feargal Twomey (Milford Care Centre, Limerick), National Clinical Lead for Palliative Care, will deliver an overview of the National Clinical Programme for Palliative Care.
Wellness sessions will be given during the breaks, linking with Dr Clodagh Butler, School of Applied Psychology, UCC.
