Stolen lorry leads to chase and arrest
A man has been arrested after driving a stolen lorry and failing to stop for gardaí.
In a late-night incident on Tuesday, a lorry was reported stolen from the Bandon area of the county.
The vehicle's whereabouts remained a mystery until this morning, when it was spotted in the Togher area of Cork. However, things took a dramatic turn when the driver refused to stop when ordered to do so.
Gardaí initiated a "containment operation" to control the situation. The pursuit ultimately concluded in the Forge Hill area of Togher and a gunshot was fired from a police firearm during the incident.
A man in his 30s was apprehended and is currently in custody at a local police station in the Southern Region, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
During the operation, two garda vehicles sustained damage, but no injuries were reported.
Gardaí are actively investigating the incident, seeking to unravel the circumstances surrounding the stolen lorry and the ensuing chase.
As a result of this discharge of the firearm, the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has been notified of the incident.
