Zine to be believed
Michael Olney
This weekend a unique and colourful Leeside festival will invite zine artists from all over the country to come and share their work in the city centre.
Taking place this Saturday and Sunday and hosted by Creativity & Change at MTU 46 Grand Parade, Cork Zine Fest is a joyous celebration of all things zine!
And what exactly is a zine you ask? A zine is a small, self-made publication through which artists can talk about all sorts of topics and express themselves in a way that is specific to their passions and interests.
The Cork Zine Fest market is open from 10pm-4pm both days and invites all to come along and peruse the art and meet the artists and makers behind the zines. The event is free to attend with no pre-booking required.
Alongside the market, Creativity & Change will be hosting a series of zine-making workshops, giving everyone the chance to experience the unique joy of making zines. They will run on both days from 11am-1pm and 2-4pm.
With this Saturday being Global Day of Action for Climate, the Cork Zine Fest will host climate action-themed, drop-in zine workshops on the day.
Guiding the workshops will be Helen O’Keeffe and Claire Coughlan of Creativity & Change. They are both passionate about the power of participatory art and love to guide processes like street art and zine-making that have the unique power to amplify voices and create meaningful impact.
The zines created will be added to the Creativity & Change zine library at Cork Zine Fest.
