Ballincollig awards celebrate outstanding achievements
The recent Ballincollig Business Awards 2023 showcased the best of local business while also paying tribute to a number of local legends.
Organized by the Ballincollig Business Association, it took place at the Oriel House Hotel on Thursday 14 December and guests included the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Kieran McCarthy, and Dell's Vice President, Bob Savage.
Highlighting local business excellence, the coveted title of Business of the Year was awarded to the Oriel House Hotel.
Chosen from the 12 monthly winners, the decision was made by a distinguished panel of judges, Dr Niall O’Keeffe, Head of Enterprise at Cork City Council, and Paul Healy, Head of the Rubicon Centre. Oriel House Hotel was crowned Business of the Year for their outstanding efforts and contributions not only to the association but to Ballincollig town as well.
Janice McConnell, General Manager of Oriel House Hotel, expressed her gratitude and commitment to further enhancing the local community.
On accepting the Business of the Year award, Janice McConnell said: “This is a tremendous honour for the Oriel House Hotel. We are truly grateful for the recognition of our continuous commitment to Ballincollig and its community. This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. The afternoon also saw the recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to the community. Cllr Derry Canty, honoured for over 35 years of dedicated service to Ballincollig as a member of Cork County Council and Cork City Council, and Paul Byrne of Virgin Media, a veteran presenter with the broadcaster for over 25 years, were acknowledged for their lasting impact.
In addition to individual recognitions, Ballincollig Tidy Towns received well-deserved accolades for their monumental achievements in 2023. Their efforts propelled them to become runners-up in the national competition and clinch the title of Best Large Urban Area.
The celebratory atmosphere was further enhanced by the musical talents of the Polyphonics Barbershop Chorus, entertaining the 130 attendees during the meal. The Lord Mayor himself joined the chorus on stage for a memorable performance.
Expressing her delight, Emer Cassidy, Chair of the Ballincollig Business Association, said: “Many congratulations to all our winners today. What a really special celebration of Ballincollig life – looking forward to doing it all again in 2024.”
