Over €47k raised for family of dad who died at charity match
The Cork community has come together to raise over €47,000 in less than a week for the family of man who passed away on St Stephen’s Day.
Jamie Wool from Tivoli tragically died at a Mayfield United charity match during the Christmas break. At just 45 years of age, the news of his untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout the community, where he was well-known and much-loved.
Jamie, who was a former player and member of Mayfield GAA, headed up his own electrical company and was known as the “singing electrician”.
Mayfield GAA described him as a “ larger then life character, a shining light of spectacular energy, a role model for all and a presence that was enjoyed by anybody lucky enough to be in his company”.
“There will be a massive void around our club which will never be filled,” they said.
They also praised him for the dedication and effort he invested in the club.
In the wake of his untimely death, a GoFundMe page was set up to assist his wife Majella and three children Lauryn, Saoirse and Jayden.
“Jamie was more than a friend; he was a beacon of kindness, a true gentleman who touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him,” it read.
“Jamie dedicated himself to his own electrical company, a testament to his hard work, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit.
“Whether you know Jamie as the 'singing electrician', the soccer coach, the GAA supporter, from his time working in Lennox's chipper or as the loving father he was, I'm sure his upbeat passion for life left a positive impression on you."
“While Jamie was always so generous with time and sponsorship in the local community, his main commitment was providing for his loving wife Majella and three precious children Lauryn, Saoirse and Jayden.
“Now, as we grapple with the void left by Jamie's untimely departure, we turn to you, our extended family, and friends for support. In this challenging time, let's rally together to ease the burden on his grieving family.
“The funds raised through this GoFundMe page will be a lifeline for Jamie's wife and children, helping them navigate the financial challenges that lie ahead. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, is a step toward ensuring that Jamie's legacy lives on through the well-being of his family,” it added.
In less than a week, over €47,000 has been raised, with organisers thanking generous donors for their “amazing support”.
A pool tournament which Jamie had organised to take place over Christmas, will now become an annual event in his memory.
