Jesus concert film epic comes to Wilton

A Cork film composer will perform the entire music score from his new album ‘Jesus from Nazareth His Journey in Music’ at a special concert with film event this month.

Multi-instrumentalist Girish Paul will perform the album at SMA Wilton Parish Community Hall in Cork on Saturday 23 March in the lead up to Easter.

Cork producer Carmel Barrett and Paul will bring the epic story of the life of Jesus Christ to Cork, from his birth in a lowly stable in Bethlehem, to his betrayal, ultimate resurrection and his message to all humanity.

Barrett and Paul are the team behind the 2023 tour of the concert production of ‘The Diary of Anne Frank', which was well reviewed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Girish single-handedly performs the heart-warming music score with his virtual orchestra in which he plays many instruments live on stage to the full orchestral score that will take the audience from modern day Cork back two thousand years.

The concert is supported by dramatic filmed performances by talented Irish actors including Sean Ahern and Liam Howard, and all the scenes were shot in and around Cork and county Cork.

Composer Girish Paul said: “I’m delighted to have gained so much support from parish churches around Cork that have kindly allowed us to bring to life such an important story and message to Cork audiences in a much troubled world, and we wish at the outset to thank those parishes and staff for their kind generosity.”

Girish Paul explained that he produced the album as he saw a way to share stories that might help us all to solve problems without conflict.

“As the world has spiralled into conflict on so many fronts, we felt that here was an opportunity to reach out to audiences with some of Christ’s messages in a format that takes just a couple of hours, aided and abetted by beautiful music and evocative on-screen images to tell this powerful story that has lasted over two thousand years.

“Christ’s message may well be as inspirational and relevant to today’s troubled world as it was all those centuries ago,” he added.

“This event will sweep the audience from Ireland today back through the ages to a time when the Roman Empire ruled the ancient world, to a place of great suffering, and to a stable where a child was born, one who grew up to be revered by millions today across the globe. Several instruments will be performed on the night aided by a studio recorded full orchestral score,” he said.

Some of the scenes in the show are unsuitable for young children under 12, so parents with young children are advised not to bring them. There is also flash photography throughout the concert.

As the music album has been released worldwide, they plan to tour it across Ireland in 2024 and then onto the UK and USA in 2025. A feature film will also be produced after the tour for global release.

There will be two performances at SMA Wilton Parish Community Centre on Sat 23 March - a matinee show at 3pm (doors at 2.30pm) and an evening show at 8pm (doors at 7.30pm).

Tickets can be purchased and printed online at gr8events.ie. A small number of tickets are also available at the SMA Wilton Parish Office.
