School sale for a sound system
Used items will be getting some new love on Leeside today, Thursday, at a special sale event at a Cork city school.
Grá faoi dhó (loved twice) invites the public to Gaelscoil na Dúglaise from 2.30pm today where they can peruse a huge selection of ‘preloved’treasures.
The event, which will be held in the school’s halla, is being organised by teacher Grace Nic an Ultaigh with support from the parents association in the school.
The idea for the sale was inspired by a school in Dublin which held a similar event which focused more on high-end clothes. It is the first of its kind to be held by Gaelscoil na Dúglaise with all monies raised going towards a new sound system for the school.
“We wanted to create something more accessible and inclusive here in the school. We have also widened our sale to include much more than clothes,” said Ms Nic an Ultaigh.
She added: “We sent a call out to the families in the school and the response has been amazing. Families have really embraced the concept, contributing some amazing items and there is a great buzz in the school looking forward to the sale.”
School principal Niamh Ní Mhaoláin said: “We place a great emphasis on caring for our environment in the school and have a very active coiste glas or green committee to encourage our children to do as much as they can to help the planet. This is part of that message, that we need to move away from our throw-away culture and give things a new lease of life whenever we can, and it is a very important part of encouraging sustainability with the children.”
Grá faoi dhó takes place today from 2.30-8pm at Gaelscoil na Dúglaise in Douglas.
