Ballintemple woman dies in the Philippines

A Cork city community is in mourning this week following the tragic death of a young woman while canyoneering in the Philippines.

Ballintemple local Meg Haugh, 26, died on 2 May in the town of Badian in the Cebu province of the Philippines.

It is reported that Ms Haugh became unwell during a three hour trek and collapsed suddenly after experiencing chest pains.

According to a local news outlet, efforts were made to revive Ms Haugh but were unsuccessful.

Since the news, tributes have poured in for the beloved sister of three.

A post on Rip.ie said Ms Haugh had passed away suddenly “in the company of her good friend Tessa while exploring the beautiful Philippines”.

“Meg will always be remembered by her loving parents, siblings, grandfather, aunts, uncles, cousins, great friends and wonderful neighbours,” her family wrote.

She leaves behind mum and dad, Richard and Kathryn, sister Sally, and brothers Marty and William.
