Cork County Council has announced Moira Murrell as its new chief executive.

The Moira the merrier for Cork County Council

Cork County Council has voted to ratify the appointment of its new permanent chief executive.

Former member of Kerry County Council Moira Murrell will replace outgoing Interim Chief Executive Valerie O'Sullivan.

Ms O’Sullivan took up the role last year following the departure of Tim Lucey who had served as Cork County Council Chief Executive since 2014.

A special meeting of full council was held in committee on Tuesday, for elected members to consider the recommendation of the Public Appointments Service and the views of the Corporate Policy Group on the appointment of Ms Murrell.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Frank O’Flynn, said: “We are delighted to formally ratify the appointment of Moira Murrell as Chief Executive of Cork County Council. She has extensive experience and is dedicated to public service. We look forward to welcoming her back to Cork County Council. I know that through her leadership and vision we will continue to make county Cork a remarkable place to live, work and visit.”
