Boho is back

Like it or not a trend that dominated our lives for so many years is very firmly back this summer.

Were you a boho babe the first time round or does the thought of getting back out of storage all your peasant blouses and circle belts slung low on the hip fill you with dread?

Fear not because boho 2.0 has definitely had a more grown up glow up with the poster girl for the early 2000s trend Sienna Miller launching a new collection with M&S last week.

Summer and boho go hand in hand so there’s no better time to dip your toe in the trend and this particular collection has everything you could need for a laid back summer aesthetic.

If you’re unsure how to style a boho look then there are a few essentials that you simply must have in your wardrobe.

The first foundational building block of the boho wardrobe is a white cotton, lace trim blouse. Fresh and flowy, you can style it with anything to give an instant Ibiza old town feel.

Demin shorts work particularly well with the white blouse just pair with leather sandals but you can also style with loose patterned trouser and a slight heel for night time. There are so many options out there so shop around for one that feels right for you.

The next piece you need in your wardrobe is pair of jeans which of course work so well with the shirt.

The Sienna Miller collection features a pair of barrell leg jeans and they are just denim perfection and a great pair of denims to wear with sandals and flats in the summer. Miller styled them for the launch with a pair of leather western mules and I must say I swooned when I saw the outfit.

A great dress is also another boho essential and whether you like to go short and flippy or long and flowy, there are plenty of options out there to suit any occasion.

I always make a little stop at River Island if I’m looking for a dress and they have a fab printed, sleeveless high neck style that is begging to be packed into a suitcase for a summer of cocktails by the beach.

It’s got a Zimmermann feel minus the crazy price tag.

I’ve styled it for a shoot with some woven slider and a straw bag. Pop a denim jacket over your shoulders and the look is complete. Lastly for the grown up boho feel, you need a really fabulous jacket in your arsenal.

The quality must be just right and also have an unexpected detail. A utility jacket but make it cropped goes so well over all the laid back pieces and also I’ve spotted a few white jackets around but with beautiful embroidery or broderie anglaise features.

They will instantly elevate jeans and a t-shirt or dress up denim shorts when styled with a heeled ankle boot. Accessories this time round are kept to a minimum so thankfully we don’t have to come face to face with the leather circle belts ever again but keep it simple with leather crossbody bags or a straw shopper bag. Jewellery wise, maybe one large gold cuff is all you need.

The new boho is a lot more pared back focusing on fabric and subtle detailing but of course like everything you can delve into the trend as little or as much as you like.

Let a white blouse be your key piece or go full on with a printed maxi dress. The choice is yours but let the spirit of Sienna be your guide.
