Newly elected Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll joined the Cork City Sports Committee to host the launch this week.

One of the premier events on Ireland’s athletics calendar, the meet will take place at MTU Stadium, Bishopstown on 9 July.

Representatives from the sporting world, event organisers, volunteers, and sponsors attended the launch in Vertigo at Cork County Hall to mark the 70th anniversary of Cork City Sports.

Speaking at the launch, the County Mayor said: “Cork County Council is very proud of its long association with Cork City Sports. Over the decades, it has become a cornerstone of Ireland’s athletic calendar, drawing elite athletes from across the globe to compete on Irish soil.

“This year’s event is coming off the back of outstanding Irish achievements at the European championships. All positive indicators of a vibrant athletic culture here in Ireland. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this historic event and support the future of Irish athletics,” he added.

The event will feature a lineup of international and Irish stars chasing qualification standards, ranking points, and prize money. Spectators can look forward to thrilling performances and an opportunity to witness top-tier athletes performing.
