County Mayor's Diary Cllr Joe Carroll

It was with great pleasure that I assumed the role of Mayor of the County of Cork last Friday, 21 June and I look forward to a busy year.

This prestigious position is an immense honour, and I am enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead to continue enhancing our beautiful county over the coming year.

During my term as mayor, one of my primary goals is to ensure that Cork County Council receives sufficient funding from Central Government. This will enable us to support our communities and businesses effectively. A critical aspect of this support is improving the condition of our roads, which will ensure safe travel for our citizens and foster the growth and development of towns and villages throughout Cork county.

Tourism is a vital part of our local economy. As a member of the Tourism SPC, I have witnessed first-hand the benefits tourism brings to West Cork, particularly through cruise liners. I aim to extend these positive impacts by promoting new docking locations for cruise liners, thereby benefiting more areas throughout the county.

Engaging with the young people in our county is especially important to me. The future of Cork county depends on retaining our youth by providing opportunities for them to build successful lives here. I am committed to fostering cooperation across various sectors to offer the necessary supports for our younger generation, making Cork county a desirable place to live and work.

I eagerly anticipate working with Moira Murrell, Chief Executive of Cork County Council, our dedicated council staff, and all residents of Cork County. Together, we can strive toward realising the full potential of the county.

Recently, I had the privilege of speaking at the Air India Memorial service, a poignant annual event commemorating the lives lost 39 years ago. Additionally, I attended the launch of the 70th anniversary of Cork City Sports. So, it has been a busy start and I look forward to attending the Cork City Sports at MTU to see world class athletes in action.

As Mayor of the County of Cork, I am committed to cherishing every moment of this esteemed role and working tirelessly on your behalf. Through cooperation and engagement, I believe we can build Cork county into an even better place.
