Rebels return home

After one of the most dramatic All-Ireland final defeats in history, the Cork hurlers will mark the end of their season with a homecoming event today.

From 4.30pm, Cork GAA will host Rebels’ Return, a stellar line-up of homegrown musical talent at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Acts performing at the Páirc today include The Frank and Walters, John Spillane, J90, and Myles Gaffney, with KC from RedFM acting as MC for the evening.

Cork GAA have billed the event as “an opportunity for Cork fans to thank the team for their efforts throughout this season and start the road back to Croke Park for next year”.

Tickets for the alcohol-free event are €4 and are available via ticketmaster.ie.

Speaking after yesterday’s final, Kevin O’Donovan, CEO of Cork GAA said: “The result may not have gone our way today, but we are so proud of Pat Ryan’s team for what they have achieved.

“Rebels’ Return will be an event for our incredible fan base. They have been with us throughout this year, in the rain and the sun, cheering from their homes, and painting the county the Rebel red. Let’s close this chapter in style and start working on the next,” he added.

The event will also be streamed live via Cork GAA’s streaming platform, Rebels Online. The stream will be accessible free of charge and around the world.

Yesterday’s final saw Cork lose to Clare by one point during the first extra-time period ever to happen in an All-Ireland hurling final.

Cork started brightly in a hard-fought game which saw neither side able to pull away. The match ended Cork 1-34, Clare 3-29, with Cork corner-forward Robbie O’Flynn firing wide in the dying moments with a chance to level the score.

The win marked Clare’s fifth All-Ireland senior title and extended Cork’s title drought by another year with the Rebel’s last win in 2005.

While today’s Rebels’ Return event welcomes all ages, parents are advised that for reasons of safety, buggies cannot be accommodated at the stadium and children under 16 will not be allowed onto the pitch.
