Gardaí at scene of fatal incident in county
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of an incident that resulted in the death of a male in county Cork last night.
The fatal incident occurred yesterday evening at a residence in Waterfall in Ballinora.
Shortly before 10pm, gardaí received a report where concerns for the safety of a male in a house were raised.
A cordon was established and An Garda Síochána initiated its Operational Command protocol.
An on-scene commander was appointed and local garda negotiators attached to the National Negotiators Unit attended the scene with assistance from a number of other garda units.
A male was later discovered deceased in the residence with self-inflicted injuries following the discharge of a firearm.
The matter has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) and gardaí confirmed there will be no further comment at this time.
Gardaí also confirmed that the focus of the investigation at this time is the preparation of a file for the coroner.
