Art opening minds
An open door event showcasing the works of three West Cork artists is underway.
Open Door, Open Minds: Celebrating Women in Art will run until 27 August at The Yellow Door in Baltimore village.
The showcase will see Sherkin Island based painter Majella O'Neill Collins join artists Paula Marten and Aisling Roche, offering art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to experience the creativity and passion of their work with scheduled and unscheduled talks throughout the coming weeks.
O'Neill Collins, a renowned painter and lecturer with TU Dublin’s Bachelor Visual Arts on Sherkin Island, has garnered admiration from notable figures internationally, including George Clooney. Her art has been described as a true reflection of her spirited personality and deep connection to her environment.
Artist and teacher Paula Marten infuses her vibrant creations with a deep love for nature and West Cork. Her work reflects the impact nature has on humanity, emphasising the importance of embracing its positive influence.
Aisling Roche draws inspiration from the sea, particularly Lough Hyne.
Her works aim to evoke the serenity and fragility of the ocean's ecosystem, reflecting the memories, dreams, and otherworldly experiences she encounters while swimming.
Roche’s work offers a profound appreciation of the ocean’s delicate balance, encouraging viewers to reflect on its beauty and vulnerability. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to engage directly with the artists through scheduled and unscheduled talks.
Majella, Paula, and Aisling will share the stories behind their creations, their inspirations, and insights into their creative processes. This interactive element aims to forge a deeper connection between the artists, their work, and the audience. Nestled in the heart of Baltimore village, The Yellow Door is renowned for attracting Ireland's most recognisable personalities.
The gallery offers visitors a chance to take home a piece of West Cork's artistic legacy, showcasing a diverse selection of works from local craftspeople and renowned artists.
