‘Eoin was a gentleman’

Cork is reeling following news of the death of local musician Eoin French who performed under the stage name Talos.

French, 37, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning following a short battle with illness, his team confirmed on social media.

Michael Carr from Cork Opera House described French as: “One of the most genuinely talented people I've ever had the pleasure to meet”.

“Anything he put his hand to, he was brilliant at, and went about it in his own, quiet way,” Mr Carr told the Cork Independent.

“It was easy to see this with his first band, Hush War Cry, but when he started producing music as Talos, I think everyone was gobsmacked at just how good he was. I know I was.

“His artwork was pretty beyond compare too. Above all of this, Eoin was a gentleman and I would venture, very inspirational for anyone who spent time in his company. He will be missed dearly,” added Mr Carr.

Known for his profound song-writing and exquisite falsetto vocals, French gained early recognition for tracks like 2014’s ‘Tethered Bones’ and 2016’s ‘O Sanctum’.

In 2017, he released his first full-length, Choice Music Prize-nominated ‘Wild Alee’, following His third album, ‘Dear Chaos’, was released in 2022.

“It is with great sadness that we let you know that our friend Eoin French, known to many the world over as Talos, has passed away after a short illness,” his team posted on social media.

“Eoin passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Sunday Aug 11 2024 in his native Cork, surrounded by his loved ones.

“A beautiful soul, a true artist, a son, a husband, a father, and a friend. We are devastated by his passing.

“As was his wish, there will be new music from Talos to share with you all in the future.”
