Cork-based actor Alex-Eydt as Freddie-Halpin in ‘Suit Hung. Tied-Tongue.’

Cork star shines in controversial film

A controversial film with anarchic themes and starring an up-and-coming Cork actor will be screened on Leeside this month as part of the IndieCork Film Festival.

Directed by award-winning Dublin-born writer and director, Sau Dachi, and starring Cork-based actor Alex Eydt, ‘Suit Hung. Tied Tongue’ has garnered much attention in the three years since it was written.

Through found footage, the film tells the fictional story of two brothers (played by Alex Eydt and Louth actor Paul St Leger) who lose their mother to the cervical cancer scandal and whose grasp on reality and logic slips leading to tragic and polarising events, driving them, in their grief, to commit a series of savage acts. The fall-out from their crimes brings national outrage, disgust, and support. ‘Suit Hung. Tied Tongue.’ has been shown at the Richard Harris Film Festival with a nomination for Lead Role for Paul St Leger and has already won Best Feature Film at the Underground Film Festival as well as being nominated for Best Feature film at The Louth International Film Festival. Scored by Grammy nominee Dario Rodighiero, ‘Suit Hung. Tied Tongue’ is a provocative, slow burning 94 minutes of dark drama, described by The Sunday Times as a film that “looks set to be a cult classic”. The film will be shown at IndieCork Film Festival on 21 August at The Arc Cinema, Cork ahead of its general release later this year.Cork-based actor, musician, and filmmaker, Alex Eydt has already gained a reputation as being somewhat of a chameleon at the young age of 25.

Musically his sound is eclectic. From soul-stirring folk ballads to spine-tingling hip-hop and techno tracks, Eydt's repertoire is vast. However, it's his career as an actor that's beginning to gain speed. His role in ‘Suit Hung. Tied Tongue.’ sees Eydt showcase his acting abilities (and earn additional cinematography credits in the process) but he also contributed to the soundtrack, first with a spoken word piece of the same title, and then with his own original composition ‘My Darling Dear Mother’. This year, Eydt celebrated the release of his debut album, ‘Guardians’ with leading singles ‘The Vertigo’, ‘Face Her’, and ‘Kills’ landing him placements in Music Crowns, HotPress, Nialler9, RTE, Flex Magazine, and Spotify’s New Music Friday. We can certainly expect to see a lot more from the local star as he continues his creative journey.Louth actor Paul St Leger has played in musical line-ups in both Dublin and London. He moved his focus from music to acting in 2019. In-depth character study and improvisation have been at the forefront of his performances since his initial training with the Gaiety School of Acting. He got his first role in ‘A Short Horror Film’ directed by Sau Dachi, in which he starred beside his ‘Suit Hung. Tied Tongue’ Cco-star Alex Eydt.
