Family fun and games at North Main Street Carnival

This weekend a festival of fun will be erupting in some of our most historic city centre streets as the second North Main Street Carnival takes place!

Another fun-filled Open Streets event is taking place this Saturday 24 August on North Main Street.

The carnival kicks off at midday when Lord Mayor Dan Boyle will formally open the event.

The fantastic Roaring Forties band will keep the crowds in full swing.

This Open Streets event ‑ where people are encouraged to leave their car at home and visit Cork city on foot, bike or by public transport will be followed by further events like Autumnfest on Douglas Street on 1 September and a third at Culture Night on Friday 20 September.

On Saturday, there will also be fire eaters, games for children, balloon twisters, facepainters, food stalls, some four legged guests from Rumleys Farm, Punch and Judy puppet shows, magic, raffles and fun galore.

Dog owners are welcome to enter the North Main Street Carnival Dog Show while people can play ping-pong, giant games or just chill on the bean bags or play giant games as people replace cars on the street.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Dan Boyle said: “Cork City Council is delighted to see the North Main Street Carnival being run again, following on from the highly successful event in 2023, and wish the Middle Parish Community Association and North Main Street traders the best of luck.

“These Open Streets events allow people to witness how streets and street life can be transformed when people and community are to the fore.”

In addition, on Friday night there will be a fabulous evening with acclaimed comedian Jon Kenny at St Peters on North Main Street.
