Storytelling has 'become my religion'
A hit show from one of the country’s most exciting creative minds is coming to Cork city next week.
Running at the Cork Arts Theatre from 28-31 August, ‘Making A Show of Myself’ by Mary Kate O'Flanagan has already enjoyed a sell-out first run in Dublin last year.
The award-winning show is a collection of true stories brought to life by O'Flanagan live on stage.
By day, O'Flanagan is a story consultant for film and television and she has used her vast experience in the industry to turn a number of her stories, which had already gained huge attention on social media, into a unique piece of theatre.
“It’s safe to say that story is the central preoccupation of my life,” O'Flanagan said on Canadian radio.
“It’s been the focus of my studies, at the heart of all my work and my deepest pleasure. Over the course of my life, it has become my religion.
“I’ve come to believe that by shaping a story, we reclaim our own narratives and that changes the course of our lives. That is why I am out here making a show of myself, sharing my silliest, most embarrassing, most painful, happiest and proudest moments, to share my faith in stories and hopefully, win a few converts to the power and magic of story,” she added.
