Search for missing tycoon continues
The search was continuing yesterday off the Italian coast for Mike Lynch whose father was from Cork.
The technology tycoon is reportedly one of six missing after a luxury yacht sank during bad weather on Monday. He is missing along with his daughter Hannah. His wife Angela Bacares was rescued along with 14 others, including a mother who held her one year old baby above the water.
The British-flagged yacht, called Bayesian, had 10 crew and 12 passengers on board and sank at about 5am local time off the coast of Palermo.
Lynch founded Autonomy in 1996 which was sold in 2011 to Hewlett-Packard.
However, following the sale there were accusations of fraud. This resulted in civil litigation in the UK and Lynch's extradition to the US, where he went on trial in March 2024. Lynch was found not guilty of all charges in June.
