A memorial charity clay pigeon shoot will be held in county Cork in October.

Hosted by East Cork Gun Club, the annual Darragh O’Connell memorial charity clay shoot takes place on 6 October at River Valley Clay Target Club, Ballindenisk, Watergrasshill, from 10am to 4pm.

All funds raised at the event will go to the night nurse services with the Irish Cancer Society.

The day offers visitors the opportunity to experience what it's like to shoot some clay targets at the Have A Go stand. There will also be a stand for those interested in trying archery.

Speaking ahead of the event, East Cork Gun Club committee member Jack Hourighan said: “When approached some years back about a fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing Services we were more than happy to get involved.

“The members, being aware of so many people who are beneficiaries of this service in the community, were delighted through our sport to give support. We would hope that this small effort would prove beneficial to this worthy cause,” he added.

East Cork Gun Club has been involved with many fundraisers over the years.

“Through our involvement in shooting, wildlife and habitat protection schemes and re-stocking, we have come in contact with a diverse group of communities throughout East Cork,” concluded Mr Hourighan.
