Aware makes a big splash

National mental health organisation Aware has announced its second annual Big Splash, urging people country wide to come together for a swim on 14 September to raise much needed funds the charity.

Cork participants are invited to take part by taking a dip at their favourite swimming spots in the Rebel County.

Anyone taking part will receive a blue swimming hat featuring the Aware sun icon, symbolizing hope to proudly demonstrate support on the day.

With figures showing that currently 53% of adults in Ireland report what they believe is an experience of depression over their lifetime, and 42% citing frequent anxiety, Aware says it is continues to see high demand for its services from the public, as the charity directly supports up to 40,000 people each year.

Stephen Butterly, Head of Fundraising at Awar, said: “We really appreciated the support for the inaugural Big Splash for Aware last year, with almost 1,000 people taking a dip at their local swim spots to support Aware. The sense of community was wonderful as we saw people from all across Ireland come together in solidarity to raise vital funds for our nationwide services.”

He added: “We hope to see the event grow significantly this year and look forward to seeing even more people take the opportunity to bring friends, family and community together for a shared experience, that will make a big difference in the lives of others.”

Registration for Big Splash for Aware is open now at aware.ie. Entry costs €23 per person.
