Autumn brings a new palette of colours for men’s wedding suits.

Suit up!

Autumn can be a beautiful time of year to get married, bringing with it an entire new palette of colours to consider when choosing that perfect wedding suit or tux.

Where a traditional black, blue, or grey suit is a safe bet all year round, darker shades of grey or brown can look great with an autumn backdrop.

According to theknot.com, at this time of year, wedding attire for men tends to shift from linens, and bright pastel colours to richer colours, warm fabrics, and layering pieces.

From bold burgundy, beige, or wine, to maroon, burnt umber, or chestnut, the autumn palette offers a whole new way to frame your special day.

Once you have your ideal colour, your next consideration will likely be your suit’s cut and material.

This is Ireland, and two things we have in abundance are unpredictable weather and wool!

A wool suit can look incredibly stylish and will keep you cosy as you pose for photos outdoors this autumn.

Another great thing about wool is that the material breaths very well indoors, meaning comfort is assured regardless of where you are, and you won’t need to keep taking off and putting on your jacket. Also, a wool suit will never get wrinkly (unlike the groom inside it)!

Tweed is also popular in the autumn time. According to Slater Menswear, similar to tweed, herringbone can be a great choice of fabric this time of year. Herringbone is heavy and durable, making it a perfect choice for weddings during autumn. A herringbone suit consists of a tighter weave fabric, typically made from flannel or wool, which helps give a more structured silhouette.

When it comes to choosing a cut for a tuxedo, it’s probably best to keep things simple with a timeless James Bond-style shawl lapel.

It’s dignified, it oozes character, and it’s versatile, lending itself to a whole range of occasions. You could also go for a notch lapel which can add a little charm while further increasing the tux’s versatility for future occasions.

One last important note is the fit.

You’re looking for that Goldilocks balance of comfort and snugness. You have classic – comfortable, and less constrictive than a slim cut while not being baggy; slim – a snug, more European style fit; and modern – a hybrid of the two.
