St Luke's Day full of fun

A care home recently celebrated all the work it does to help its residents and daycare clients.

As part of St Luke’s Day, Cllr Peter Horgan, deputising for the Lord Mayor of Cork, visited St Luke’s which is home 128 residents, including those living with dementia, and 100 daycare clients each week.

His tour of the home included a visit to Maguire House, Cork’s first dedicated dementia unit, where he took time to chat with some of the residents.

A spokesperson for St Luke’s said: “The Deputy Lord Mayor received a very warm and artistic welcome from all. The Deputy Lord Mayor was persuaded to turn his hand to painting when he called in to the daycare centre to meet the Friday morning art class; they were impressed!

“There was loads of chatting and knitting going on when he called to inspect the work of the residents’ Knitting Club. Even some dancing with the Deputy Lord Mayor! He was also presented with a beautiful green hand-knitted hat as a gift from all the residents.”

Now in its 152nd year, St Luke’s Charity and Home is a provider of residential care to older people in the Cork region, ensuring all its residents experience the very best clinical, physical, social and spiritual care and enjoy the best quality of life.
