Dripsy Castle Estate has been totally restored.

Restored castle is a real gem

The finest treasures often lie close to home, and Dripsey Castle Estate is a perfect example of such a gem. This historic estate has been lovingly restored, preserving its original features and maintaining the atmosphere of the period it was built in. Now, this beautiful venue has opened its doors to the public, offering an unforgettable setting for weddings, celebrations, and special events.

I had the pleasure of attending the estate’s Autumn Tranquillity event last Saturday, and from the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the beauty and history surrounding me.

Our day started in the cosy dining room of the estate, where shelves of old books and a large wooden table, once used in a school, gave the room a charming, rustic feel.

We enjoyed tea, coffee, and tasty pastries while Tereda Harrington gave us the plan for the day: a foraging walk around the estate. Tereda's knowledge of the plants growing all around us was fascinating—who knew so many edible and medicinal plants were right at our feet?

With the crisp autumn air and sunshine overhead, we wandered through the woods and gardens, taking in the natural beauty and history of the estate as we went.

After our walk, we were treated to a lunch crafted by one of my favourite local chefs, Bryan Phelan of the Village Deli at Ravencourt Garden Centre. The meal was a feast of hearty soup with homemade brown bread, a vibrant couscous salad with pickled onions, and generously-filled sandwiches that felt more like full meals. Every bite was delightful, and the rustic, homey atmosphere made the experience even more special. The afternoon was spent exploring the building itself—a house that, despite its grandeur, radiates warmth and hospitality. Each room was more beautiful than the last, filled with carefully preserved details that pay homage to the estate's past. As we wandered, guests were invited to enjoy aromatherapy massages from the talented Sarah Loretto, adding a layer of relaxation to an already blissful day. Our day ended with yoga and meditation led by Paula O’Riordan. It was the perfect way to unwind, and I found myself discovering muscles I didn’t even know existed!

The laid-back atmosphere, combined with the serene setting of the estate, made it easy to fully immerse in the moment and let go of daily stresses. What sets Dripsy Castle apart isn’t just its stunning grounds or historic charm, but the genuine warmth of the people who run it.

Sales Director Sandy Harrington greeted us with open arms, encouraging everyone to make themselves at home, and by the end of the day, that’s exactly how I felt.

I left Dripsy Castle feeling rejuvenated, content, and thoroughly impressed by everything I had experienced.

For those looking to enjoy this hidden gem, upcoming events promise to be just as memorable. This Saturday, guests can indulge in the Savour the Night event, where tapas and fine wines are paired with live music. On 2 November, dance lovers can join Emma for a barre class, and on 23 November, a full-day yoga retreat with lunch prepared by the talented Gautham Iyers awaits while 1 December offers a chance to get festive with a Christmas wreath-making workshop.
