Portuguese architect to give talk on Leeside

A Portuguese architect will be in Cork tomorrow giving a talk about some of his projects.

Nuno Melo Sousa will give a talk tomorrow, 14 Thursday at 7pm, in the school of architecture (next to Nano Nagle) on Douglas Street in Cork city. This talk is free and all are welcome.

Those organising the event said: “Sousa is one of the most important architects working in Portugal at present with host of significant projects to his name including cultural buildings, houses and industrial projects.”

His studio is based in the town he grew up in, Penafiel, in northern Portugal. He is known for his exploration and expression of structure in his work. Sousa’s art work has been exhibited internationally and is on permanent display at the Drawing Matter Archive in London.

In addition to running his studio, Sousa has taught in Mendrisio Switzerland, FAUP Porto, Portugal and INDA Chulalongkorn, Thailand. He is currently completing his PhD at FAUP, Porto.

They added: “The publishing house amag produced a monograph on his work which was launched in September. This event has been organised by the Architectural Society with the support of the RIAI Southern Region and BOK Engineers & Architects.”
