Celebrate Cork’s coffee culture at night!

Like many cities, Cork suffers form a lack of late night cafes and alternatives to pubs.

A new initiative aims to turn coffee shops into vibrant social hubs after hours. Taking place on Thursday 28 November and Friday 29 November, independent coffee shops in Cork city are invited to take part in Coffee House Lates.

A Cork Night Time Economy Initiative, facilitated by the Cork Business Association (CBA), Coffee House Lates offers an opportunity for coffee shops to showcase Cork’s coffee culture, attract new customers, test their night-time market, and strengthen the sense of community in a non-alcoholic, inclusive setting.

Participating coffee shops will stay open late until 9pm and will host special events for people seeking an alternative evening out in Cork. Coffee House Lates is designed to support local business growth while giving the city’s coffee lovers and residents a memorable nighttime experience.

Businesses will be supported by the CBA to help bring their events to fruition.

Fiona Collins, Cork City’s Nighttime Economy Advisor said: “The hope for the evening is that coffee shops will see the benefit in opening late and it will become a regular fixture, which will greatly add to our nighttime offering. Cork city is already a vibrant hub in the evenings but there is very little for locals and visitors to do if they are not drinking. Our coffee shops are really unique and we want to celebrate that.”

Aaron Mansworth, President of Cork Business Association said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to highlight our unique independent coffee shops across the city and offer people an alternative night-time activity. We’re inviting people to submit their ideas for consideration and look forward to working with businesses on this exciting evening of coffee culture.”

CBA has a list of ideas for interested businesses from live entertainment to coffee pairing events, speed dating and craft nights, and invite people to register their interest at info@corkbusiness.ie before Friday 15 November.

Coffee House Lates is open to coffee shops that can extend their hours and host a unique activity that aligns with the event’s aim to offer an engaging, alcohol-free night out. For more see corkbusiness.ie.
