CCLSS students head to Spain on Erasmus
A group of Cork students from a special programme have returned from a trip to Spain as part of the prestigious Erasmus+ Programme.
Students from a programme for early school leavers, Cork City Learning Support Services (CCLSS) are back from a trip to Spain.
This exciting educational programme saw students travel to Spain in late October, and later in the year the students will travel to Italy to participate in a cultural and academic immersion experience.
This opportunity, supported by the Erasmus+ initiative and Léargas, will allow students to enhance their education through international learning, travel and exposure to new cultures.
CCLSS, located on Fr Matthew Street, Cork operates under the auspices of Cork ETB.
The educational exchange aligns with Cork ETB’s commitment to fostering global citizenship, cross-cultural understanding, and lifelong learning.
CCLSS Director Des Cullinane, who has championed the school’s involvement in Erasmus+, commented at the launch of the programme: “We are incredibly proud of our students and excited for the experiences that await them.
“The Erasmus+ Programme offers a unique platform for young people to not only broaden their academic knowledge but also to immerse themselves in different cultures, develop their self esteem, and build relationships that cross borders,” he added.
While abroad, the students engaged in a variety of activities that complemented their academic and personal development through cultural excursions that highlight the history, traditions, and daily life of the host country.
The experience also gave students a unique opportunity to practice and improve their language skills in real-world settings.
It is envisaged that the students will develop their independence, confidence, and adaptability through this immersive experience.
Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth, and sport across Europe. The programme provides students with the opportunity to experience international exchange, enhance their skills, and gain a deeper understanding of other cultures.
It promotes values such as respect, tolerance, and cooperation while building key skills for the future.
Guidance Counsellor Noel Kearney who is leading the Erasmus+ programme added: “This experience will have a long-lasting impact on our students. They will not only return with valuable academic insights but also with life skills that will shape their future. It’s an enriching experience that opens doors to new perspectives.”
On completion of the programme, students will share their learning experiences with the broader school and Youthreach community, bringing global insights back to the classroom.
Cork ETB is dedicated to continuing its involvement in international exchange programmes, providing more students with the opportunity to grow academically and personally through similar trips in the future.
